- Abstract U.S. State Plane Zones (NAD 1927) represents the State Plane Coordinate System
(SPCS) Zones for the 1927 North American Datum within United States.
- Purpose U.S. State Plane Zones (NAD 1927) is generalized and an approximation of the
actual State Plane Coordinate System zone boundaries for the 1927 North American
Datum. It is intended for visual reference at small and medium map scales. Please
check with state authorities if you have a question about a zone boundary.
- Supplemental Information Largest scale when displaying the data: 1:5,000,000. Several State Plane
Coordinate System zones are not shown in this data set, including Puerto Rico, the
U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and Louisiana's offshore zone.

for inclusion on ESRI Data & Maps CD–ROMs for use with ESRI® software.
Each data vendor has its own data licensing policies and may grant varying
redistribution rights to end users. Please consult the redistribution rights below for
this data set provided on ESRI Data & Maps CD–ROMs. As used herein,
“Geodata” shall mean any digital data set consisting of geographic data
coordinates and associated attributes. The redistribution rights for this data set:
Redistribution rights are granted by the data vendor for hard-copy renditions or static,
electronic map images (e.g. .gif, .jpeg, etc.) that are plotted, printed, or publicly
displayed with proper metadata and source/copyright attribution to the respective data
vendor(s). Geodata is redistributable with a Value-Added Software Application developed
by ESRI Business Partners on a royalty-free basis with proper metadata and
source/copyright attribution to the respective data vendor(s). Geodata is
redistributable without a Value-Added Software Application (i.e., adding the sample data
to an existing, [non]commercial data set for redistribution) with proper metadata and
source/copyright attribution to the respective data vendor(s). The terms and conditions
below apply to all the data sets provided on the ESRI Data & Maps CD–ROMs.

- Process Description This data set was created from several sources: Extracted state boundaries
from ArcUSA 1:25M. Created state plane boundaries based on a graphic in the
article, "A National Reference System and its Relationship to Mapping" by Alden
P. Colvocoresses at the US Geological Survey (USGS), and John P. Snyder's "An
Album of Map Projections: A Working Manual" (1987: USGS Professional Paper 1395.

- Process Description The following steps were performed by ESRI for Data & Maps 2002:
Removed independent city void areas in Virginia. The following steps were
performed by ESRI: Downloaded the ArcView Shapefile, spcs_zone.zip, from
http://www.esri.com/data/online/esri/datapacks/stateplane.html and extracted it.
Removed unneeded attributes. Created ArcGIS™ layer file (.lyr). Created
ArcView legend file (.avl). Created projection file (.prj). Ran ArcView Avenue
request ExportClean, and created spatial indices.
