Abstract The dataset represents the boundaries of all public school districts in the state of New Mexico. The source for the data layer is the New Mexico Public Education Department School District Boundary Atlas.

Purpose The data was prepared to identify school district boundaries.

Supplemental Information The digital 2000 Census TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing)/Line file was used a digital starting point. This digital layer was updated and corrected with information provided by the New Mexico Public Education Department School District Boundary Atlas.

Process Step

Process Description Starting with the base 2000 census TIGER shapefile the school district boundaries were updated to match the district boundaries from the 1997 NMPED School District Boundary Atlas. The atlas was produced in 1997 from GIS data obtained from the RGIS program and data from the NM Department of Education by the NM General Services Department, Information Systems Division.
