Description
Abstract Wilson and Company collected and processed multi-spectral (red, green, blue, near-infrared) digital aerial imagery of the Las Conchas Fire that burned in the Santa Fe National Forest in the Jemez Mountains of central New Mexico in the summer of 2011. The Area of Interest (AOI) is 632,000 acres and is larger than the actual burn acreage of approximately 150,000 acres that lies within the AOI. Aerial imagery was collected with a frame - based Z/I Digital Mapping Camera at an average of elevation of 4,500 feet above ground; generating an average ground sample distance (gsd) of 0.45 feet. This aerial imagery will be used to create natural color and false color infrared digital orthophotos of the AOI at a re-sampled gsd of .3 meters. The imagery will support the Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) program that addresses landscape damage due to the fire, with the goal of protecting life, property, water quality, and deteriorated ecosystems from further damage now that the fire is out. While many wildfires cause little damage to the land and pose few threats to fish, wildlife and people downstream, the fires of 2011 has in this case created situations that require special efforts to prevent further problems after the fire. Loss of vegetation exposes soil to erosion; runoff may increase and cause flooding, sediments may move downstream and damage houses or fill reservoirs, and put endangered species and community water supplies at risk. The imagery will support the Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) program that addresses these situations with the goal of protecting life, property, water quality, and deteriorated ecosystems from further damage after the fire is out. In addition, other federal, tribal, state, and local governments will be participating in similar program along with Universities in the region.
Purpose This imagery was acquired post fire to support the Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) program.
Supplemental Information The Las Conchas Post Fire data are available in three formats. These metadata apply to all three. The GeoTIFFs are uncompressed four-band files, and due to file size limitations, are not available for downloading from the Resource Geographic Information System Program (RGIS) website. Therefore, they are available only through the custom order process described in the Distribution section of these metadata. The MrSid files have been created from the GeoTIFFs in both CIR and RGB formats. The files are a 1:15 compression of the GeoTIFF files. The compression creates a smaller file size that can be downloaded easily from the RGIS website and are readily available. The raw imagery files are also available via the custom ordering process.

Quantitative Attribute Accuracy Assessment
Attribute Accuracy Value +/- 6 meters
Attribute Accuracy Explanation This aerial photography was designed to support digital orthophotos with a horizontal accuracy of +/- 6 meters RMSE.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report
Report This aerial photography was designed to support digital orthophotos with a horizontal accuracy of +/- 6 meters RMSE.
Quantitative Horizontal Positional Accuracy Assessment
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Value 0
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Explanation This source imagery is geopositioned using the external orientation information from the acquisition. This imagery should be used for reference only, and not for accurate mensuration.
Vertical Positional Accuracy Report
Report This aerial photography was designed for orthophotos (which only have a horizontal accuracy). This photography could be used to generate a DTM that would support 5' contours (ASPRS class 2) with proper ground control.
Quantitative Vertical Positional Accuracy Assessment
Vertical Positional Accuracy Value 0
Vertical Positional Accuracy Explanation This raw imagery delivery contains no vertical component.
Logical Consistency Report The elevation and imagery products generated during this project were cross-checked as a complete data set as well as being subjected to independent QA/QC.
Completeness Report This is the source imagery for orthophoto development. Images are visually inspected for completeness to ensure that no gaps or image misplacements exist within and between adjacent images. Source imagery is cloud free.
