- Abstract This dataset contains lines for all highways in the state of New Mexico. It is in a vector digital data structure digitized
from a USGS 1:500,000 scale map of the state of New Mexico to which highways: Interstate, U.S., and State have been added.
The source was ARC/INFO 5.0.1. and the conversion software was ARC/INFO 7.0.3. The size of the file is .36 Mb, compressed.
- Purpose This dataset was created to digitally represent the highways, Interstates, US and State, of New Mexico These data are typically
used as base data for other coverages, and should be used at scale of 1:500,000 and smaller. The data are intended for use
as a general reference to the extent and location of the highways in New Mexico.

Data Quality Information
- Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report
-
- Report The root-mean square error is generally .003 map units or less.
- Quantitative Horizontal Positional Accuracy Assessment
-
- Horizontal Positional Accuracy Value
- Horizontal Positional Accuracy Explanation
- Logical Consistency Report Chain-node topology present. Tolerances were chosen to prevent errors in labels, intersections, tics, overshoots, and undershoots.
Tests were performed to detect these types of errors and necessary corrections were made.
- Completeness Report Data completeness reflects the content of the source file.
- Lineage
-
- Process Step
-
- Process Description Project coverage. Build coverage line. Rename coverage. One revision to highway name attributes was made in 1997. To make
the attributes more useful, two new ones were added: name and type. Name contains the name of each road, e.g. N.M. 14 or I
40. Type contains a code indicating state, federal, or interstate status. The codes are N.M., U.S., or Interstate. Create
shapefile. Create metadata.
